Young Ministers Should Focus on Making A Difference, Not on Wealth – Apostle Olalekan Odejimi
Apostle (Dr) Olalekan Daniel Opetunde Odejimi graduated from the Lagos State Polytechnic, (now Lagos State University of Science and Technology), Ikorodu.
He is the General Overseer of Great God Possibility Prophetic and Apostolic Assembly, Lagos Island. He is currently the Vice Provincial Chairman, PFN Lagos Island Central Province and the Coordinator, CAN Lagos Island East LCDA chapter.
During the maiden edition of Jesus is Good (JIG) Easter rally themed, “Power of His Resurrection”, organised by the Lagos Island East LCDA, he spoke with Providence News on various issues. Excerpt;
How would you describe the last Easter celebration JIC rally exercise?

To the glory of God, the Jesus is Good (JIG) Easter rally, organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos-Island-East chapter, was a resounding success.
It was a profoundly impactful and awe-inspiring moment that celebrated the authority of Jesus Christ. The event transcended a mere spiritual exercise, incorporating awareness and evangelism initiatives with diverse activities.
We seized the opportunity to conduct open prayers across the Lagos-Island-East territory.

What should be expectations for next year’s JIG rally?
By God’s grace, we anticipate great things, including the distribution of food items and other essentials to at least 5,000 Christians in Lagos-Island East. We also plan to improve our organizational structure and seek independent sponsors and supporters for the rally. Notable gospel musicians and bands will be invited to participate in next year’s rally. Additionally, we intend to honour and appreciate individual Christians within Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) who have made significant contributions to Christian growth.
Who are the sponsors for this year’s rally?
Currently, we do not have external sponsors or supporters; however, member churches of the Lagos Island East LCDA CAN contributed significantly towards the rally, which cost several millions of naira to execute.

How do you feel about being the youngest among the CAN Coordinators in Lagos State?
To God’s glory, this position is not about age or title; it is a privilege granted by God’s grace. When God bestows grace, He positions individuals where He wants them to be.
With over 20 years of serving in various capacities within CAN in Lagos Island, including PRO 2, assistant secretary, treasurer, directorate, and vice coordinator, I have undergone a process of training and mentoring.
The current Lagos State CAN Chairman, Bishop (Prof) Stephen Adegbite, has been a supportive leader and encouraging mentor.

What is your assessment of the current state of Christianity in Nigeria?
We thank God for the present state of Christianity in Nigeria; the Church of Christ is growing, with many still giving their lives to Christ, evangelism gaining momentum, churches and ministries are springing up, and genuine miracles still occurring.
Although, as it was in the beginning, it is today. There may be some challenges due to satanic influences, rebellion, and the presence of ‘black sheep’ among the righteous, we remain hopeful. As Jesus said, ‘I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.’

What advice would you give to Nigerians in the face of current situations?
There is hope and a better life ahead. While Nigeria faces economic challenges, banditry, and ethnicity issues, there are also levels of development and growth.
The situation is not unique to Nigeria, and we believe that with God in control, things will get better.
Nigerians should hold on to God, continue praying for the country’s leadership, and not lose hope.

What are your thoughts on Christians’ participation in politics?
Christians should participate in party politics and governance, as we cannot continue praying without being actively involved.
Politics is not inherently ‘dirty,’ and Christians have the right to make a difference. As seen in the Bible, individuals like Joseph, David, and Daniel successfully impacted governance.

Nigerian Christians have produced a Christian president and will likely do so again.
What advice would you give to young ministers seeking to succeed by all means through fast-tracked activities?
Young ministers should understand that building a healthy spiritual foundation is essential. They should live sacrificial lives, be dedicated to their calling, and follow God’s pattern in obedience to His Word, rather than running to acquire material success.

The young minister’s focus should be on serving God and making a difference, not on accumulating wealth or status.
