Managing Your Destiny When God’s Word Seems Contradictory By Femi Adebayo

God told Abraham, “I will make you a father of many nations” yet this declaration came without a specific time frame. Immediately after this promise, scripture makes a seemingly contradictory statement: “But Sarai was barren; she had no child (Genesis 11:30). ” This raises a profound question: how can nations emerge from a barren couple?

Despite the contradiction, Abraham believed in God. His faith opened a window of opportunity when he entertained divine visitors, and it was then the prophecy received a time frame, “About this time next year (Genesis 18:10). ” This underscores a critical truth: the fulfillment of every prophetic word is not automatic; it hinges on the posture and actions of the recipient.

Like Abraham, we must recognize and respond to divine moments that activate and enforce prophecy. Consider 2 Kings 3:16–20 (NCV), where Elisha instructed the people to dig ditches – you won’t see wind or rain, but the valley will be filled with water. And at the appointed time about the time for offering the sacrifice” the water came, just as God had said.

Prophetic declarations require more than celebration, they demand participation. God promised the Israelites a land flowing with milk and honey, yet many died in the wilderness due to their unbelief and disobedience. Their failure did not nullify God’s word; it only delayed or denied them personal access to it.

In managing your destiny, don’t just hold on to the promise, engage it with faith, obedience, and discernment. The performance of God’s word often depends on your response to it.
