Christ’s Shining Light Personifies Righteousness – Rev Dr Samson Adedokun
Rev Dr Samson Adedokun, Senior Pastor of New Dawn Baptist Church, Oniru, Lagos, has said darkness is a tangible reality that impacts every aspect of life, affecting comfort, confidence, and the ability to enjoy God’s goodness. Consequently, a life lived in darkness will continue to struggle.

He made this assertion as a guest speaker during the Lagos State Public Service Christian Fellowship (LSPSCF) 2026 Mid-Year Outreach, themed, “The Light Shineth,” held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Focusing on the theme and referencing John 1:5, Rev Adedokun noted that the scripture does not suggest that darkness is nonexistent, weak, or lacks ability; instead, it affirms that “the light shines in darkness.” If the scripture had stated “the light will shine,” it would imply a delay in faith. If it had said “the light has shone,” it would mean a historical event without ongoing impact. However, the phrase ‘the light shines’ signifies an ongoing reality. the good news is that the light continues to shine, work, and remain visible through the power of God’s word.

Elaborating on his point, he shared personal experiences of encountering darkness, recounting instances where his confidence grew as he realized the light shines, and he exclaimed, “God, you are too wonderful; I didn’t know what You were doing was so marvelous.”

Using the biblical example of Daniel, a public servant whose light prevailed despite adversity, Rev Adedokun reassured the fellowship members that God’s light delivers, releases, rescues, redeems, and restores.

He declared that when Jesus intervenes in a life or situation, He brings light that makes a difference, conquering, crushing, and canceling darkness.

Rev Adedokun prayed, regardless of what anyone is going through or how long it has endured, through His power, God’s light will be visible in every life and situations in our dear country, in Jesus’ name.

Addressing the current situation in Nigeria, he emphasized the importance of righteousness, stating that when Christians live righteously, societal issues such as kidnapping and banditry decrease.

Rev Adedokun urged, “The light shines means all of us must begin to live in righteousness to help our society.”

In his remark, Rev Dr Oluremi Hunsu, President of LSPSCF, noted that the theme for the 2026 mid-year outreach was spirit-led, acknowledging that darkness prevails everywhere, including places of work, family, homes, marketplaces, and many people lives are quite in darkness but affirmed that God’s light shines over darkness and cannot be comprehended by it.

He added that the fellowship had prayed for God’s light to shine over leaders, country, communities, and families.

In his contribution, Engr Tokunbo Ajanaku, Chairman, Planning Committee for the 2026 Mid-Year Outreach, quoted John 1:5, stating that “the light shines” is God’s declaration of His intent to care for whatever individuals are doing and to dispel darkness, failure, and frustration.

He emphasized that the outreach aimed to direct people to the light, Jesus Christ, so that their situations could be transformed, and the kingdom of God could be increased.

Dr Gbolabo Okudero, Vice Chairman of the Planning Committee, cited Psalm 44:3, commented that God’s light is necessary to possess our possessions and that the current situation in Nigeria requires God’s light to shine.

He expressed the belief that the mid-year outreach would usher in deliverance for people and the nation, as God’s people stand in the gap to command His light to shine.

Among other ministers during the two days outreach that features other varieties (birthday thanksgiving, award presentations, prayer rain, communion and anointing services) are, Pastor Joshua Banjo (Youth Pastor, RCCG), Rev Dr Oladele Ajayi (Presiding Chaplain, CCTL), Very Rev Ayo Oyadotun, Rev Dr Olurotimi Taiwo (Chaplain, CCTL), Pastor Tunde Onanuga, Elder Micheal Dawodu, Pastor Samson Kilanko, Pastor Kehinde Akinloye, Rev Mrs Alli, and others.
