Celebrating Rev. Dr. Wilson Adebogun Badejo’s 79th Posthumous Birthday: A Legacy of Faith and Service

May 19, 2026, marks the 79th posthumous birthday of Rev. Dr Wilson Adebogun Badejo, a revered figure in the Nigerian Christian community and a beacon of hope for many whose indelible life of faith, service, and philanthropy continues to inspire generations.

Born on May 19, 1947, in Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Badejo transitioned to glory on August 7, 2021, at age 74. He left behind a legacy etched in spiritual revival, institutional growth, and compassionate outreach.

Early Life and Conversion:

Rev. Dr. Badejo, a trained veterinarian’s life journey began as a vibrant student activist at the University of Ibadan, where he narrowly escaped a police bullet during a student crisis in 1969, as an undergraduate. Afterward, he surrendered his life to Christ, marking the start of a transformative path. He worked in public and private sectors between 1974 to 1989 before fully committing to ministry in 1986 with the Foursquare Gospel Church.

His passion for the Gospel, intellectual depth, and commitment to serve others, blended with native knowledge and biblical scholarship, defined his speaking prowess that draws millions through zealous, eschatologically rich preaching.

Ministerial Leadership in Foursquare Gospel Church:

Rev. Dr. Badejo, the General Overseer Emeritus led the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, from 1999 to 2009, a position he held for two consecutive terms, expanding the church dramatically with grace and humility. Under his “Barley Harvest” initiative, over 4,000 branches of Foursquare Gospel Churches were planted propelling phenomenal national and international growth, including strengthening ties with the Foursquare Mission International.

Rev. Dr. Badejo was not just a pastor; he was a visionary leader who understood the importance of addressing both spiritual and social issues.

He mentored leaders, repositioned the church globally, and upgraded the church facilities such as acquiring over 210 acres for campgrounds, Establishing of McPherson University, providing landed properties to districts for housing, and many other recorded developments. His preaching was characterized by a profound understanding of scripture, coupled with practical applications that resonated with the everyday struggles of his congregation.

Fellow ministers addressed him as a “spiritual force,” “world changer,” and an apostle of church-planting. He never preached without making an altar call.

Philanthropy – Wilson & Yinka Badejo Foundation (WYBF): A Legacy of Empowerment and Advocacy for Social Justice:

One of the hallmarks of Rev. Dr. Badejo’s ministry was his commitment to empowering others. He believed that every individual has a unique purpose and calling, and he dedicated much of his life through various programmes and initiatives, not only providing guidance and support to aspiring pastors, community leaders, and laypersons, he encouraged them to pursue their God-given destinies.

In 2007, on his 60th birthday, Rev. Dr. Badejo founded the Wilson Badejo Foundation (WBF), a non-profit, non-governmental organization co-led by his wife, Rev. Mrs. Yinka Badejo, until her passing three months after his in November 2021. The foundation was later renamed in 2022 to Wilson and Yinka Badejo Foundation (WYBF) to honour their shared legacy in positively impacting many lives and communities.

Driven by gratitude to God, WYBF still aids the less privileged, widows, orphans, indigent students via scholarships, and displaced Nigerians, putting “smiles on the faces of the downtrodden” till today.

As Chairman of Bells University of Technology’s Board of Trustees, he infused spiritual guidance, earning praise as a mentor and bridge-builder.

Embodying rare faith, Rev. Dr. Badejo understood that spiritual growth must be accompanied by practical support, and he worked tirelessly to create opportunities for those in need.

Rev. Dr. Badejo was also a passionate advocate for social justice. He spoke out against corruption, inequality, and injustice, urging the broader community to stand up for the marginalized and oppressed.

Legacy of Faith, Family, and Fellowship:  

A quiet family man, scholar-preacher, administrator, and philanthropist. He always emphasized the importance of Christians love, compassion, and action, reminding believers that faith must be lived out in tangible ways.

Rev. Dr. Badejo was survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. His wife pioneered some Foursquare Churches and Dew of Heaven Ministries, for women and the needy.

Tributes from figures like former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Pastor E.A Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Pastor Tunde Bakare, and many others underscore his explosive administrative and leadership prowess.

Though Rev. Dr. Wilson Badejo passed away in 2021, his legacy continues to inspire many new generations of Christians who are committed to social change. Also, organizations and movements that align with his vision for justice and equity have emerged, carrying the banner of his message for hope and action.
