Introduction
The Church is not merely a building or organization; it is the Body of Christ (Ephesians 1:22–23). God has a clear pattern and expectation for His Church. Understanding this helps us align our ministries with His divine purpose.
1. A Church Built on Christ: “I will build My church…” Matthew 16:18
The Church belongs to Christ, not man. Jesus is the foundation (1 Corinthians 3:11)
The Church must be centered on His teachings and authority.
Characterised by Christ-centered preaching, Dependence on Jesus, not human wisdom, Submission to His Lordship.
2. A Holy and Sanctified Church: Ephesians 5:25–27.
God desires a holy Church without blemish
Holiness is not optional; it is a requirement: 1 Peter 1:15–16; Hebrews 12:14.
How do we know a holy and sanctified church? Separation from sin, Pursuit of righteousness, Discipline and spiritual accountability
3. A Church Full of Love: John 13:34–35
Love is the identity of true believers, Without love, ministry is empty (1 Corinthians 13:1–3)
We know a lovefilled Church by genuine care for members, unity and forgiveness, practical expressions of love.
4. A Spirit-Filled Church: Acts 1:8
The Church must operate in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Spiritual gifts are given for edification (1 Corinthians 12:7)
She is known for Manifestation of spiritual gifts, Boldness in witness, Sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.
5. A Praying Church: Acts 2:42
Prayer is the engine of the Church, The Early Church thrived through prayer (Luke 18:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:17).
She is known for Consistent corporate prayer, Intercession for members and nations, Dependence on God.
6. A Word-Based Church: Acts 2:42
The Word of God is the Church’s foundation for growth.
Sound doctrine is essential (2 Timothy 3:16–17; Joshua 1:8).
Characteristics: Strong teaching ministry,Biblical accuracy, Application of Scripture.
7. An Evangelistic Church: Matthew 28:19–20.
The Great Commission is non-negotiable in an evangelistic church, Evangelists of the church are always working for souls salvation, likewise all the members.
Every believer is a witness (Mark 16:15; Acts 4:20)
Characteristics: Soul-winning passion, Missions and outreach, Discipleship focus.
8. A United Church: Psalm 133:1
Unity attracts God’s blessing while Division weakens the Church (Ephesians 4:3–6; 1 Corinthians 1:10).
Characteristics: Harmony among members, Respect for leadership, Shared vision
9. A Church That Bears Fruit: John 15:5.
God expects results from His Church. Fruitfulness is evidence of abiding in Christ.
Types of Fruit:
Soul-winning
Spiritual growth (Galatians 5:22–23)
Good works
10. A Church That Prepares for Christ’s Return: Matthew 25:1–13
The Church must be ready for the Second Coming.
Watchfulness and preparedness are essential
Characteristics: Spiritual alertness, Faithfulness, Expectation of Christ’s return
Conclusion:
The kind of Church God wants is:

– Prayerful

– Evangelistic

– Expectant of His return
