Catholic Action Nigeria

The Catholic Action Nigeria, a movement of the Lay Faithful that promotes knowledge of Catholic doctrine, and the Church’s social teachings. It promotes leadership values and good governance. Our responsibility is to deepen the formation of the lay faithful from a value-based Christian perspective, and to create a platform for Nigerians (Catholics and Non-Catholics) with special focus on the young people to be adequately moulded into active political players guided by the teachings of the Church and her Gospel values, pursuant to the development and economic growth of our nation.
In a press statement jointly signed by, Peter I. Agbontaen, KSJI, the Governor, Board of Trustees and Joseph Adom Kyaagba, mni, KSM, the 1st Vice Chairman, Council of Patrons
Catholic Action Nigeria expresses shock at the dramatic suspension of the CJN Samuel Nkanu Walter Onnoghen, GCON by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
Catholic Action Nigeria will never condone any breach of the law by any person or institution including the CJN. However, the body urges restraint and compliance with the rule of law at all times.
Catholic Action Nigeria appreciates the several words of caution both from local and international communities on the need for the executive arm of government to be guided strictly by the rule of law.
The public outcry by the leadership of the National Assembly is hereby acknowledged, However, given the strategic position and powers vested on the Assembly, this is not enough. We call on the National Assembly to rise up to their statutory function.
From the foregoings, the impending potential dangers this conflict portends to the disruption of the 2019 general elections, our democracy, national unity, national security, are that, the President respects the rule of law and reverses his actions immediately, the acting CJN Justice Tanko Muhammed CON respects the NJC and cease to act in that capacity to save the Judiciary from executive intimidation and lawlessness, all judicial officers of superior courts and the NBA should rise in defence of the judiciary and insist the President reverse the ill-advised venture.
The statement further urge the suspended CJN to seek judicial interpretation and challenge his suspension in the court and the National Assembly should take immediate action to redeem the situation, while calling on Nigerians to condemn the executive constitutional breach without any form of violence that will fuel anarchy contrary to our aspirations for one Nigeria.
