Abraham, David, Job, and Our Lord Jesus: Examples of Saints’ Divine Responsibility By Femi Adebayo

There are ancient landmarks that  Fathers of Faith have set! Don’t remove them (Proverbs 22:28). Rather, follow such examples.

Jeremiah declared, “Thus saith the Lord, stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls…Unfortunately, …they said, we will not walk therein.” Jeremiah 6:16.

Abraham rescues his nephew Lot (who we can say got what he deserved ) – Genesis 13-14 That was a spiritual old landmark! David did the same in 1 Samuel 22:23 when he told Abiathar, stay with me; don’t be afraid. The man who wants to kill you is trying to kill me too. You will be safe with me. David also demonstrated this action when a bear and a lion invaded the family investment. He put his life on the line. We all know the rest of the story. That is the path of honour.

Isaiah admonished Moab to execute justice and allow Israel outcasts dwell among them (Isaiah 16: 3-4). In Job 29:12-19, Job rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist them. “The one who was dying blessed me; I made the widow’s heart sing. I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban. I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the wicked and snatched the victims from their teeth.”

Finally, we have all read of the poor thief upon the cross, turning, whilst paying the last penalty of the law with his life, in penitence to the Saviour “Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom”. We know the gracious answer he received, “And Jesus said to him, Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in Paradise”. Luke 23:42-43. The miserable man enters glorious eternity with Christ Jesus.

Saints of Christ, let’s follow these examples as our responsibilities while still on this side of eternity, that is, to stand and provide security for the defenseless especially to the household of faith. If a Christian Brother or Sister has to suffer for righteousness’ sake where we work or dwell and we cannot do anything to defend or protect them against any demonic assault, I can safely say that our Christianity is not complete.

Christians out there are suffering in their workplace because they stand against fraudulent acts and have become subjects of attack.

Unfortunately, their fellow Christians have technically joined the enemy. What will be our testimony if a Christian brother or sister has to pay the supreme price for standing right and we have the power or opportunity to defend and refuse the same? What are we going to write in their condolence register or ours when we appear at the throne of mercy?

The only reason I think we are failing on this assignment is when we have been overtaken by the spirit of David’s siblings – envy and jealousy or we are directly or indirectly benefiting from the attack. The testimony of a very close friend came to mind when writing this piece. The people had to get permission from him before they attacked an individual at his workplace or else his spiritual covering would not allow any satanic assault.

Christians in your workplace should boast of your spiritual covering, if not, you need to double your spirituality.
