THE FAMILY AS A TYPOLOGY OF FEDERAL GOVERNMENT By Dr Priscilla Otuya
If the foundations be destroyed!
“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” – Psalm 11:3
Every family is a miniature government. God designed it this way deliberately. The father is the President, the mother the Vice President, the first child the Senate President, and the other children are Parliamentarians, each with their God-ordained departments – finance, defense, governance, administration, wisdom, creativity, and more.
This divine structure is not for fun. It is God’s own government on earth. But when the father, mother, and first child abandon their responsibilities, dysfunction creeps in. And dysfunction becomes fertile ground for Satan and his co-workers to enter, steal, kill, and destroy.
John 10:10 – “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
THE FATHER – President of the Family
The father’s first duty is not money or reputation, but to love God and obey Him.
Deuteronomy 6:5 – “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
When a man neglects this greatest commandment, he fails as President. He cannot give his children what he does not have. He cannot train them in God’s way.
Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
But most men were never trained themselves, so they wander in ignorance. And because they fail in their priesthood, many fall prey to Satan’s traps.
Proverbs 22:14 – “The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the Lord shall fall therein.”
Strange women – physical and spiritual – have siphoned family wealth, broken homes, and corrupted legacies.
Nahum 3:4 – “Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.”
When a father abandons God, he opens the gate for harlotry, witchcraft, and strange covenants to sell off his family and his nation.
THE MOTHER – Vice President of the Family
Most mothers do not know what it means to deputize for their husbands. If the President fails, the Vice President is meant to stabilize the house. But many instead use the man’s inadequacies as an excuse for rebellion, chasing their own pursuits, abandoning the family.
Instead of rising in wisdom, they sink into dysfunction. And when both father and mother fail, the family teeters on collapse.
THE FIRST CHILD – Senate President
Here lies the critical seat. The firstborn belongs to God.
Exodus 13:2 – “Sanctify unto me all the firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine.”
The first child is the Senate President of the family. When the father fails, the mother is supposed to step in. When both fail, the first child must rise to stabilize the family. But many first children do not even know this responsibility. Some drift with peers, some escape responsibility, others imitate dysfunction.
Yet whatever the Senate President does ripples down to every sibling. If the firstborn rises in obedience, the family aligns. If the firstborn abandons their seat, the family falls deeper into ruin.
Yes, many first children struggle. They inherit no good foundation. They must labor on their own. Still, this is no excuse.
Romans 14:12 – “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”
God does not excuse dysfunction. He calls every firstborn – indeed every child – to rise above the failures of parents and align with His purpose.
THE OTHER CHILDREN – Parliamentarians
Other children are like parliamentarians with departments. Some are given the gift of finance, some of defense, some of governance, some of administration. But when the Senate President fails, these parliamentarians scatter.
Those with finance treat it as their own. Those with defense neglect their siblings. Those with wisdom waste it. Instead of working together, each minds their own business, while the family destiny collapses.
And so it is with our nations. Dysfunctional families have produced dysfunctional governments. We have no moral right to attack national leaders when our own households are in disorder.
THE DEVIL’S BLUEPRINT
This dysfunction is intentional. It has been engineered.
Genesis 2:24 – “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
This scripture was twisted to mean abandonment of family, when in reality, ancient traditions kept family legacy intact. In many African cultures, when a man married, he was given his own hut within the family compound. He did not scatter or forsake his lineage; he continued it.
But the counterfeit interpretation scattered families, broke unity, and destabilized nations. Colonial powers exploited this. King Leopold II of Belgium even instructed missionaries in Congo to destabilize family order so children would rebel against parents and communities could be subdued. That satanic strategy still bears fruit today.
THE CONSEQUENCES
Fathers abandoning God.
Mothers misusing authority.
Firstborns fleeing their thrones.
Siblings scattered and selfish.
Churches are silent or complicit.
And Satan? He thrives in the chaos, selling nations and families into bondage.
THE CALL TO REBUILD
God is still searching for those who will stand in the gap.
Ezekiel 22:30 – “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.”
If families are destroyed, nations collapse. If men abandon God, generations perish. If the foundations crumble, the righteous are left perplexed.
But God has not left us without hope. He calls fathers back to priesthood, mothers back to wise counsel, firstborns back to their seats of responsibility, and siblings back to unity.
Only then can the family – God’s original government – be restored.
